The French Football Federation is considering filing an official complaint with FIFA to ask for the yellow card received by Michael Oliseh in the match against Paraguay to be overturned. The initiative comes after FIFA's decision to suspend the ban of American striker Folarin Balogun, a case that, according to French media, could set a new disciplinary precedent.
According to the French daily The TeamThe French federation argues that Olise's punishment was the result of an arbitrary error. Television footage, they say, shows that the contact with Matías Galarza did not occur in the way interpreted by the referee, so the yellow card is considered unfair.
France's objective is to erase this card, so that Oliseh does not risk suspension due to the accumulation of cards in the decisive stages of the World Cup, such as the quarterfinals or semifinals.
The Balogun case has sparked debate in the football world, as many federations believe that FIFA's decision could open the door to similar appeals in other cases, questioning arbitrary decisions that affect the course of the tournament.
