Eight people have been confirmed dead and six injured in a shooting on a university campus in the Russian city of Perm. The perpetrator has been captured by police. Terrified people were filmed fleeing a building through windows.
The incident occurred at Perm State University, one of the oldest universities in the Urals. The school's social media on Monday morning warned everyone on campus to leave if possible, or to lock themselves inside a room.
The attack ended with the arrest of the perpetrator, university authorities and police announced. According to some media outlets, he was injured by police.
Investigators said the attacker is a student at the university. Previous unconfirmed reports identified him as an 18-year-old named Timur Bekmansurov, who allegedly made comments on social media describing his motives for the extreme attack.
“I hate myself, but I want to hurt anyone who gets in my way. The alarm became even stronger, like an egg hitting my head. The feeling that everything around is just a dream does not disappear. I see no reason to write anything else. In the end, I can say that I am not the first and not the last. You will not escape from the gun, bombs, knives, everything that comes to mind. People like me will destroy everything around you,” the author was quoted as saying by the media.
