A brutal crime took place in California when a Google engineer beat his wife to death inside their home. 27-year-old Liren Chen, according to authorities, was found inside his home and appeared "haunted" as his wife lay dead next to him.
The murder took place in Santa Clara, an upscale area in the heart of Silicon Valley and just a few kilometers from Google's headquarters. Police received a call from a friend of the couple who became concerned as neither Chen nor his wife were returning his calls. However, when he went to their house, he saw Chen through a window "on his knees with his hands up".
When police entered the couple's home, they found the woman brutally murdered in the bedroom and Chen kneeling. The woman had received severe blows from a sharp object on the head.
Chen's clothes, legs and hands were "drenched in blood", while his hands were scratched and bruised. Both Chen and his wife – identified as Xuanyi Yu – worked at Google.
"We are shocked and saddened by what happened to Xuanyi," Google spokeswoman Bailey Thomson told The Post. "Our thoughts are with her family."
According to their LinkedIn profiles, Chen and Yu were software engineers at Google who studied in China but worked in the US.
