Washington and Beijing are considering extending the agreed trade deal by one year.
This was reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) citing sources.
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to sign an agreement during the White House chief's visit to Beijing in early April.
The current trade deal was reached after leaders of the two countries met in Busan, South Korea, last October. The US cut tariffs on China from 10% to 47%, lifted restrictions on some Chinese companies from supplying products to the US and eased tariffs on semiconductor exports to China.
China has begun buying soybeans from the United States and has exempted many American agricultural products from tariffs.
