With a starting price of $25.000 (€21.188), the cup sold for a whopping €303.027. According to organizers, it was the only US Open men's singles champion's trophy during the Open Era to ever come on the public market.
Before passing into private hands, the trophy was exhibited at the International Tennis Hall of Fame Museum in Newport, where it was lent by Becker himself. It was then sold after the bankruptcy process that the former tennis player experienced. The racket that Rafael Nadal used in his last Grand Slam victory, at the “Australian Open 2023”, was also sold at the same auction. The racket was sold for 13.191 euros. An even higher amount was paid for the racket with which Novak Djokovic won the “US Open 2018”: 17.558 euros.
