In response to BalkanWeb, the European Commission, referring to its 2025 progress report, notes with concern the growing interference and increased pressure of public officials on the judicial system.

In the response to the BW editorial board, it is stated that in the 2025 report, the Commission further recommended that Albania strengthen accountability by reducing political interference in the judicial and prosecution services.

"The European Commission monitors and reports on progress in this area in the context of EU accession negotiations. We will continue to closely monitor and support the consolidation of the rule of law and judicial independence in Albania, as part of the country's European integration process," the EC's response to the report reads. The European Commission's reaction

In its 2025 report on Albania, the Commission noted that while the stability of the judiciary has generally improved, increasing attempts by public officials or politicians to exert undue interference and pressure on the judicial system remain a matter of serious concern.

The Commission further recommended that Albania strengthen accountability by reducing political interference in the judicial and prosecutorial services.
