The political leader of the Socialist Party in the Tirana Region, Elisa Spiropali, has stated that Albania's membership in the EU will pave the way for young Albanians to be educated in European countries just like their peers from EU countries and at the same rates.

In the show "This Week" in News24Spiropali underlined that the opportunities brought by membership in the Union will not be lost due to "the whims and political troubles of a single person, of a biological and political family that is failing to renew itself."

Asked by Nisida Tufa about the opposition's accusations of corruption and nepotism, Spiropali said that at first, when the Socialist Party came to power, it found an administration terrorized by arbitrary layoffs and without respecting any legal basis, but that now the administration is one of the reasons why the opening of the group chapters was made possible, after successfully passing the screening process.

"The administration is one of the reasons why we opened the first group chapter with the EU. We are a vanguard in the region for the progress of the administration. We found an administration traumatized by the unexpected moves, where they were dismissed without any criteria and without respecting the law. Today the civil service is consolidated, a draconian law for moves within the administration.

This administration is underestimated but we must understand that it has survived the screening process by the EU. We must no longer see through dark glasses, of course there is also a need for improvement. We cannot have a European Albania without a European administration. And the opening of the group chapters is a test that I believe we will pass successfully.

I left the country myself at the age of 16 and returned under the fear of my parents that, having no connections, I would not find a position in the administration.

I am back in 2006. I know what it means to be a person whose value is recognized. European Albania paves the way and gives young people the opportunity to be educated at the same rates in the EU, to work with the same papers or even to have dignity, opportunities that we should not let slip away due to the whims and political troubles of a single man, and a biological and political family that is failing to renew itself.", she said.
