The National Security Council met today at the call of President Bajram Begaj, while at the center of the discussions was the situation of the security institutions following recent developments regarding the investigation against the former director of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni.

The call of the Council, whose meeting began at 08:30, came after the launch of investigations against Vlora Hyseni, who is under the security measure "house arrest". Regarding the issue, Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the investigation is within the competence of the judiciary. At the same time, he has underlined the state's responsibility for guaranteeing and protecting institutions related to national security.

In a live link for News24, journalist Ergys Gjençaj reported that Prime Minister Edi Rama had appeared at the Brigades Palace. Also part of the meeting was the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi and the Head of the State Police, Skënder Hita, as well as other senior state officials.

The prime minister is expected to suggest to the president the name of the new head of SHISH. The head of state is then expected to decree the head of the State Intelligence Service. It is also expected that the new head of SHISH will be elected, after undergoing a vetting process, following the recent scandal with Vlora Hyseni.

We recall that the case of Vlora Hyseni is unprecedented for our country, where a SHISH director is involved in a scandal of leaking secrets. Hyseni helped businessman Ergys Agasi while the latter was on the run. Regarding the matter, Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the investigation is within the jurisdiction of the judiciary. At the same time, he has underlined the state's responsibility for guaranteeing and protecting institutions related to national security. Meanwhile, 3 years ago the Security Council met for the last time, after cyber attacks from Iran, while no decisions are made at the meeting.
