Izet Mexhiti, co-chair of the VLEN coalition, spoke on the "Studio24" show regarding the protest held today by Albanian students in North Macedonia, who are demanding the use of the Albanian language in the jurisprudence exams.
Mexhiti stated that Albanian students have been deprived of this right for two decades, as they take the jurisprudence exam in the Macedonian language.
"In the past, students have not protested, they have been deprived of this right because they have been taking the bar exam in Macedonian for 20 years. The protests have been peaceful and we support them as a voice that they have the right to," he declared.
According to Mexhiti, the police tried to avoid tensions during the protest, while an incident was recorded after it ended.
"The police tried to avoid clashes. After the protest, there was an incident and two Albanians and a Macedonian were arrested for physical altercations," said the co-chair of VLEN.
He further added that an agreement has been reached with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on the implementation of the language law and the expansion of the use of the Albanian language in several fields.
"We have agreed with Prime Minister Mickoski to implement the language law and to use the Albanian language for some areas of education, licenses, etc. Somewhere a change in the law is required, somewhere a change in the regulation is required," said Mexhiti.
