Tropical Storm Bertha is strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico, increasing the risk of strong winds, heavy rainfall and flooding along the southern coast of the United States.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the storm was located on Tuesday morning about 115 kilometers southwest of Panama City, in the state of Florida, and is moving slowly northwest, towards the US coast.
Bertha is accompanied by sustained winds reaching up to 97 kilometers per hour, while meteorologists warn that the phenomenon may continue to intensify over the coming hours.
Authorities have issued a warning for coastal areas along the northern Gulf of Mexico, where strong winds, heavy rainfall and coastal flooding are expected.
According to the NHC, the most severe weather conditions are expected to hit the region by the end of today and throughout Wednesday, while residents have been asked to follow the instructions of local authorities and prepare for severe weather.
