The High Court in Subotica has ordered pre-trial detention for two people suspected of involvement in a sabotage plan in Germany, while Serbian authorities have not made public the full identities of the arrested or the specific charges against them.
According to the German newspaper Bild, the two men are suspected of being "agents" of the Russian secret service, recruited for a single mission. They were suspected of planning to plant explosives at a facility in Germany.
German media reports that their arrest was carried out in early June by special forces on the border between Hungary and Serbia. According to Bild, explosives were found in the suspects' suitcase, while investigators are examining the possibility that the planned target was an infrastructure related to the production or supply of military equipment to Ukraine.
The two suspects, with the initials BD and Gj.S., have been in custody since June 12. The court has announced that the security measure has been extended for another month, but the decision has not yet become final.
According to reports, information provided by German security authorities and intelligence services was crucial to their arrest.
Germany's Federal Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt, stated in June that security services had prevented an explosives attack on German territory, describing the matter as highly confidential.
