Democratic Party MP, Albana Vokshi, commented on News24 the events of yesterday's opposition protest, which ended in tension and with MP Bledion Nallbati hospitalized.
Vokshi described the violence exercised by the police against the people's representatives as unacceptable. "There was no reason to beat MP Nallbati in a brutal manner. He was saving a citizen who was doing his job from the hands of the police. He was hit with a shield and a rubber baton, and then with pepper spray. This entire police platoon must be held legally responsible," Vokshi declared.
The MP emphasized that the opposition's goal was to contain the anger of citizens, calling for calm and peace: "We have been in a way in defense of the law enforcement agencies. No MP has caused incidents or conflicts."
Vokshi also focused on the dire social situation in the country, citing the latest Eurostat report showing that over 40% of citizens are excluded from social services: "Citizens are unable to feed their children three meals a day, they cannot afford the most minimal expenses. This is the real situation we are facing."
She added that MPs and citizens were systematically attacked by the police during the protest, while emphasizing that her pants and shoes were also engulfed in flames, according to her, from weapons thrown by the police.
