The barricade, which was located two kilometers from the border point in Merdare, on the territory of Serbia, was removed on Thursday morning, according to the Radio Free Europe team located at the scene.
The release of the road has also been confirmed by the Kosovo Police.
In a press release, the Kosovo Police said that "the road which was blocked on 27.12.2022 in the second kilometer inside Serbia, today at 09:50 has been cleared for traffic".
The police informed "citizens and compatriots that now the border crossing point "Merdare" has been cleared for traffic and has returned to full normalcy."
People who were present at this place where the road was blocked, told REL that they were partially satisfied with the agreement reached on Wednesday evening.
They emphasized that they are acting in coordination with the members of the Serbian community from Kosovo.
On December 27, the border point in Merdare was closed by the Kosovo Police after a group of Serbs in Serbia blocked the road to the border.
The removal of barricades from the roads of the northern part of Kosovo has also been announced for Thursday.
The news about the removal of the barricades became known in the evening of December 28, after the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, met the representatives of the Kosovo Serbs.
The removal of the barricades was conditional on the release from custody of the former policeman of Kosovo, Dejan Pantiq, who was arrested on suspicion of having organized the attack on the offices of the Central Commission of Kosovo in the northern part at the beginning of December.
Pantiq was released from custody yesterday after his measure was replaced with that of house arrest.
In a protest that took place in the village of Rudarë in Zveçan, the political representatives of the Kosovo Serbs set other conditions for the removal of the barricades, including the formation of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities./REL
