The Trump administration is planning to build a 5,000-person military base in Gaza that will span more than 1 square kilometer, according to Peace Board contracting documents reviewed by The Guardian.
The country is envisioned as a military operating base for a future International Stabilization Force (ISF), planned as a multinational force composed of troops pledged from various countries.
The ISF is part of the newly created Peace Board, which aims to govern Gaza. The Peace Board is chaired by Donald Trump and run in part by his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Plans reviewed by The Guardian envision the phased construction of a military outpost that will eventually measure 1,400 by 1,100 meters, surrounded by 26 armored watchtowers, a small arms range, bunkers, and a warehouse for military equipment for operations. The entire base will be surrounded by barbed wire.
The fortification is planned in a dry, flat area south of Gaza, and covered in metal debris left over from years of Israeli bombardment.
