Hezbollah militants continue to carry out military operations against the Israel Defense Forces. They fire anti-tank missiles at Israeli army positions.
The Jerusalem Post newspaper reported this, citing sources.
Israeli officials believe the group is preparing for a long-term military campaign and their actions have baffled Israeli officials and diplomats. One of the newspaper's sources explained the situation by saying that Hezbollah has nothing left to lose.
"With Iran's weakening, the withdrawal of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from Lebanon and the blocking of financial transfers to Hezbollah, the organization feels it has reached a point where it is forced to act," said an unidentified Western diplomat.
The actions of the Lebanese government, despite its attempts to negotiate with Israel, have angered the United States. The newspaper writes that Washington believes that Lebanon has not acted decisively enough against Hezbollah. Meanwhile, the militants are trying to show force to convince the government not to take any steps that could hinder the group's operations. At the same time, the group is trying to force Israel to withdraw its military positions on Lebanese territory.
