A 28-year-old Russian woman, missing since late July, was found dead in a suitcase in a canal near Belgrade. A 25-year-old Turk, who was suspected of trying to flee Serbia, has been arrested for her murder.
The body was found Thursday evening by residents near a canal in the Padinska Skela area, a sparsely populated area on the other side of the Danube, far from central Belgrade. It was sent for a forensic examination and later identified as Lyudmila Turkova, the Russian woman who authorities had been searching for in recent days.

According to the Serbian Interior Ministry, the main suspect in the murder is a 25-year-old Turkish citizen, who was arrested at Belgrade airport while trying to leave the country. Authorities have not released his identity.

The investigation revealed that the 28-year-old was allegedly murdered in the early hours of July 26 in a rented apartment in the Borca neighborhood. The suspect then allegedly placed her body in a suitcase, took it to the Vizelj Canal and abandoned it there, trying to cover his tracks.

Ludmila Turkova disappeared on the evening of July 25, when she stopped responding to messages from her friends. Her disappearance was reported to authorities, who launched an investigation that eventually led to the identification of the body and the arrest of the main suspect.
The case is now in the hands of Serbian prosecutors, who are continuing the investigation into the circumstances and motives of the crime.
