Official Communiqué of Albanian Youth in New York and New Jersey;
The communication is addressed to those who are interested.
The main message of the Peaceful Protest in front of the Albanian Consulate in New York is:
"Albania is not for sale."
Despite being Albanians of the diaspora, we have not remained indifferent to the difficulties that this government, after decades, has caused to our country. Today we stand up to protect our environment, including Zvernec, Narta, Rrjoll and every corner of our lands.
We stand up to stand with our brothers and sisters in Albania and to tell them that they are not alone. We also stand up to draw international attention to issues affecting the environment, natural heritage, and the future of our country.
The main goals of the protest are:
* For the protection of the Zvernec–Narte ecosystem, one of the most important natural areas in Albania.
* For the protection of bird habitats, biodiversity and the natural balance of the area.
* Against interventions that risk irreversibly damaging a protected area.
* For more transparency on projects that affect the environment and public assets.
* For full information of citizens and real consultation with the community and experts.
* For the preservation of the natural heritage that belongs to present and future generations.
* For careful consideration of the 2024 legal changes affecting the protection of protected areas.
* For development that respects nature and the law, not development at their expense.
* To show that citizens have a voice when it comes to environmental protection.
This protest is a civic call to protect nature, our national heritage, and the future of generations to come.
