Roberto Mancini is officially the new coach of the Italian national team. After weeks of negotiations and discussions, president Giovanni Malagò once again entrusted the leadership of the "Azzurri" to the technician who led them to triumph at the 2021 European Championship.
In his presentation, Mancini did not avoid the topic of the sensational departure in 2023, accepting responsibility for what happened.
"Three years ago there was a lack of communication between me and Gravina. For me, the National Team was like losing the woman of my life. Thanks to Malagò I got a second chance and I will try to make the most of it," declared the Italian coach.
Mancini said his aim is to restore the identity of Italy that has captivated Europe by building an attacking team and trusting young players. According to him, Italian football continues to produce talent, but these players need more minutes on the pitch and more trust from clubs.
The coach also emphasized that the main objective remains Italy's return to the World Cup, expressing his belief that, if it manages to qualify, the Italian national team could be a contender for the trophy.
"I believe that if Italy goes to the World Cup, then it will become one of the favorites, even if on paper it is not considered as such. The objective is to build a competitive team as quickly as possible," said Mancini.
The Italian coach also spoke about the offensive department, showing confidence in the new generation of attackers.
"I hope that Esposito, Kean and Retegui manage to score as many goals as Immobile during their careers. I made Kean's debut and I know him very well. I don't think we have any major problems in attack," he concluded.
