Hilary Duff has publicly reacted to Ashley Tisdale's viral essay, admitting that she felt "sad" and somewhat "used" by the situation.

During an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Feb. 25, Duff opened up about Tisdale's January op-ed titled "Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group." Although Tisdale didn't name names, online speculation has included Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor in her circle of celebrity friends.

Duff, 38, said the essay came at a delicate time for her, having just released her first album in a decade and preparing for a world tour.

"The timing was not good at all and I felt used," she said, adding that her first reaction was sadness and surprise.

The actress emphasized that the narrative created does not reflect reality and that it is difficult to read something that, according to her, "is not true," especially when it includes other women in the social circle.
