A serious incident has shocked Greece. A 52-year-old woman, accused of sexually abusing and exploiting her 9-year-old daughter, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison without the possibility of parole. The Mixed Court of Serious Crimes in Larisa did not recognize any mitigating circumstances.
The case came to light in July 2025, when the woman was arrested and remanded in custody. During the trial, she admitted the charges, claiming that she had acted under the influence of a third person and that she had done so due to financial difficulties.
According to Greek media, the girl was facing serious health problems and living in deplorable conditions. The apartment she was staying in had no electricity or running water, while her mother was unable to provide her with the necessary food.
In 2022, the 52-year-old had her daughter placed in an institution after declaring she could no longer care for her. Charities then raised funds to bring the child back home. According to the case file, it was at this point that the girl began to experience abuse.
In a statement to Greek media in January 2022, the woman spoke of her financial difficulties, citing debts of 10,000 euros to the electricity company and 2,650 euros to the water company. She said she could work as a seamstress from home in order to take care of her daughter at the same time.
According to the court file, the mother had performed sexual acts with her daughter, while filming them and then selling the pornographic materials. During the investigation, at least 17 sexually explicit photographs were found in her possession, showing the faces of both of them.
The 52-year-old was accused of producing, distributing, offering, providing and possessing child pornography, as well as sexual acts with minors under the age of 12 and sexual relations between relatives in a direct line. According to the indictment, the acts were committed repeatedly.
