US President Donald Trump has said that the United States' military blockade of Iranian seaports is more effective than bombing and that Washington is ready to return to such tactics on short notice if necessary.

He said this in a conversation with reporters at the White House.

Commenting on the situation around Iran, the American leader said: "If you want to know, I think a blockade is more effective than bombing. We're ready to do it again, I would say, within 15 minutes."

He also called on US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to clarify the possibility of a quick resumption of the blockade.

"The Armed Forces are ready to take action now, if necessary," the Pentagon chief responded.
