US President Donald Trump arrived at Dublin Airport on Saturday morning, kicking off his two-day official visit to Ireland. Irish authorities have activated a large security operation for the visit of the head of the White House, with hundreds of officers engaged on the ground. The presidential plane landed at around 08:25, local time, while Trump was met at the airport by Irish Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris.
During his stay in Dublin, the US President will hold a series of high-level meetings. Trump is expected to visit the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, at the official residence Áras an Uachtaráin, and then hold talks with the Irish Prime Minister, Micheál Martin, at Farmleigh House. Also on his agenda is a speech to hundreds of guests at the residence of the US Ambassador to Ireland, Edward Walsh. After meetings in the capital, Trump will travel to Shannon Airport, in County Clare, to continue his visit to Doonbeg, where his luxury golf resort is located.
The area is currently hosting the famous Irish Open. Trump is expected to attend the matches and, according to reports, present the trophy to the tournament winner on Sunday before returning to the US.
The visit has brought tight security measures along the US President's entire itinerary. The Irish police, An Garda Síochána, has deployed hundreds of extra officers and restricted permits for some of its forces.
Traffic restrictions have been imposed in various areas of Dublin and Clare, while authorities are also preparing for protests against Trump's visit. Rallies are expected to take place both in Dublin and near the resort in Doonbeg.
