A serious incident has shocked the Albanian community in Greece, where Esma Meço, an Albanian woman, lost her life in tragic circumstances on August 26. According to preliminary investigations, her 53-year-old husband, Bujar Meço, allegedly attacked her with a knife after a conflict between them. Esma was rushed to the Komotini hospital, but could not survive the injuries she sustained. After the incident, her husband allegedly attempted to end his life and was taken to the hospital, under police supervision.

The incident took on even more tragic proportions as the couple's two children, a 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy, were in the apartment. According to reports, the girl notified authorities, while the boy, who was asleep at the time of the incident, woke up and took his injured mother to the hospital, hoping she would survive.
But, according to publicly available data, this marriage had had problems even earlier.

In an online connection with the show "With an Open Heart", the victim's uncle stated that the couple had been having problems for a long time.
In 2022, Esma had reported her husband for threats, while he was arrested at the time. Shortly before the serious incident, the woman had decided to end the marriage and planned to pursue divorce proceedings.

The victim's uncle has recounted details about the couple's relationship and the conflicts that accompanied their marriage. He said that Esma had told him that if the children came, she would take them with her, and that the girl was especially important to her.

According to him, the conflicts during the daughter's birthday were related to Esma's decision to divorce her husband.

"The generous man mistreated him," said the victim's uncle, describing the moments after the attack. According to him, the 19-year-old boy was asleep and, after waking up, he picked up his injured mother and took her to the hospital.

"I am very shocked," he declared.

Esma's uncle has also made strong allegations about the way the incident allegedly unfolded. According to him, the murder was the initiative of the husband and the couple's children and the girl's birthday were used as part of the conflict between them.

The event of August 26 has once again brought to attention the problems of domestic violence and the painful stories of Albanian families living and working in Greece.
