Iran has warned that it will no longer allow the passage of "enemy" military equipment through the Strait of Hormuz, further increasing tensions in the strategic Gulf region.

The statement was made by Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, who said Tehran has changed its stance on the passage of military assets through the strait, which is vital for global oil trade.

"We had given up our right of sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and had previously allowed the passage of military equipment that was intended to be used against us. We will not allow this again," he declared.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most strategic sea lanes in the world, as a large portion of global oil and gas exports pass through it. Any threat to restrict navigation in the area causes concern in international markets and increases geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
