A 73-year-old man has been arrested in flagrante delicto by the Kruja Police, after allegedly starting a fire to burn grass near his apartment, but the flames got out of control and spread rapidly towards the Kruja mountain, endangering residential areas.

The incident occurred on August 8 in the “Abaze” neighborhood, where citizen Qemal Berhami, 73 years old, a resident of this area, is suspected of having started a fire to burn a quantity of grass near his apartment. Due to the strong wind, the flames spread towards the mountain, creating a dangerous situation for the apartments and residents of the area.

The Police Services, in cooperation with emergency structures, intervened to guarantee the safety of residents and took measures for the partial evacuation of people who were near the fire source. Meanwhile, the firefighting operation continues on the ground, with interventions from the ground and from the air, with the aim of isolating the sources and preventing the spread of the fire towards residential areas.

Following investigative actions, the 73-year-old was arrested in flagrante delicto, while the procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecution for the criminal offense of "Destruction of property by fire". The police have appealed to citizens to exercise maximum caution and avoid starting fires to burn grass or waste, as such an action can cause serious consequences for life, property and the environment.
