The Artemis II mission crew has marked a historic milestone during its 10-day journey, completing the longest human flight around the Moon and back, for the first time in 54 years.

During the 7-hour flight near the Moon, the astronauts experienced rare and impressive phenomena, including a total solar eclipse and the so-called "Earth pendency," an effect similar to a sunset, where the Earth gradually disappears behind the lunar horizon.

Mission commander Reid Wiseman released spectacular footage showing the moment the Earth "disappears" behind the Moon. The video was recorded with an iCellphone, a device that was given to each crew member to document the experience.

Wiseman described the moment as a unique experience: "It's like seeing a sunset from the farthest point in the universe," he wrote, adding that his colleagues, Christina Koch, Victor Glover and Jeremy Hansen, were continuously documenting the stunning views from the ship.

According to the commander, the video is raw and recorded with "8x" magnification, offering an experience very close to what the human eye sees.

The Artemis II mission, launched on April 1, 2026 by NASA, successfully concluded on April 10, after the crew completed a historic journey around the Moon that was watched by millions of people around the world.
