A tragic event shook Berlin on Saturday evening, when a vehicle crashed into a crowd of participants at the Christopher Street Day (Berlin Pride) event, leaving one person dead and at least 16 injured.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. local time in the Tiergarten area, where thousands of people had gathered for Berlin Pride celebrations. According to Berlin Police, a small white van drove into the event area at high speed, hit a large number of people and then crashed into a tree. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Authorities have launched a large-scale operation to capture the suspect, involving multiple police forces and a helicopter. Police confirmed that one person died from his injuries, despite the efforts of medical teams to save him at the scene. At least 16 other people were injured, some of them seriously.


The Fire Department declared the incident a mass casualty incident, and over 150 firefighters and rescue teams were involved in the operation. A temporary helicopter landing pad was set up near the Reichstag area to transport the seriously injured, while ambulances and medical teams continued the evacuation to hospitals.


Following the incident, Christopher Street Day organizers, in cooperation with the police, decided to suspend activities and evacuate the area in front of the main stage near the Brandenburg Gate. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the incident, while investigations into the full circumstances are ongoing.
