China has evacuated more than 600 people as authorities prepare for the arrival of Typhoon Bavi, which is expected to hit areas around the eastern city of Wenzhou.

The typhoon first passed over the Sakishima islands in southern Japan and then near northern Taiwan, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

According to meteorological forecasts, Bavi is expected to reach the Wenzhou area in the early hours of Sunday local time. The city, with about 10 million inhabitants, has been placed on alert, while authorities have taken preventive measures to minimize the risk to the population.

Although the typhoon has weakened and slowed its movement as it advances northwestward over colder waters, meteorologists warn that it remains dangerous due to the large amount of moisture it carries.

Its rainband covers an area the size of France, raising the risk of flooding and landslides. Chinese authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and have urged citizens to follow emergency guidelines until the storm passes.
