A drone exploded on Tuesday at a bus stop used by staff at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, killing one person and injuring 15 others.

The news was announced by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which announced that the explosion occurred at around 06:00 in the morning. Among the injured are plant employees and subcontractors, while three people are reported to have suffered serious injuries.

According to the IAEA, the plant's director described the event as the "worst incident" the facility has ever experienced.

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and has six reactors. Russian forces took control of the facility in the first weeks of the full invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Since then, Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly accused each other of attacks and actions that could jeopardize the safety of the plant and cause a serious nuclear incident.

The latest incident has raised concerns about the safety of the facility, while the IAEA continues to monitor the situation and warn about the risks posed by military activities near the plant.
