More than 100 passengers were rescued early Wednesday after the ferry "KM Putri Yasmin" caught fire near the Indonesian island of Bali, local search and rescue services said.

The ferry had departed from Pantai Mutiara and was sailing towards the port of Lembar, on the island of Lombok, when a fire broke out on board, for reasons that are not yet known.

 


Passengers were evacuated and transferred to an Indonesian Navy ship, as well as to another ferry near the scene of the incident. According to authorities, there were officially **114 people** on board the ferry, although the number has not yet been definitively confirmed.

No casualties have been reported so far. Search and rescue teams remain in the area, while a helicopter is conducting reconnaissance flights and coordinating the operation.

The incident follows a series of serious maritime accidents in Indonesia in recent days. On August 2, five people died when a ferry carrying about 250 passengers and crew caught fire near the island of Madura. In mid-July, more than 70 people died when a boat sank near the island of Selayar, south of Sulawesi.
