A serious rail accident has occurred in the German city of Gelsenkirchen, where two trams collided with each other, leaving at least 25 people injured. The incident occurred near the Schalke team's stadium, where, according to preliminary information, a training tram suddenly stopped while moving. Another tram with passengers was traveling behind it, which failed to brake in time and crashed heavily into the rear of the first vehicle.

The collision caused significant damage to both trams and immediately mobilized emergency forces.

According to German police, about 25 people were injured. Seven of them suffered serious injuries, while three others are in critical condition and are in a life-threatening condition. The injured received first aid at the scene, while some of them were transported by ambulance to area hospitals for further treatment.


The reasons for the sudden stop of the first tram are still unknown. A special police investigation team has begun work to clarify the circumstances of the accident and determine responsibility. After the collision, part of the main road Kurt-Schumacher-Straße was closed to traffic, causing difficulties in afternoon traffic. Later, one of the lanes was reopened. Dozens of rescue teams, ambulances and police forces were deployed to the scene. Psychologists and support teams for passengers and people involved in the accident were also activated.
