European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed reported progress towards a possible agreement between the United States and Iran, stressing the importance of reducing tensions and finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
In a reaction on the social network X, she stated that Europe welcomes any step that leads to an agreement that "eases the conflict, reopens the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees complete freedom of navigation without hindrance."
Von der Leyen also stressed that the European Union will continue to cooperate with international partners to seize this diplomatic opportunity and achieve a lasting solution.
According to her, such an agreement would be important not only for regional stability, but also for the global economy, helping to limit impacts on supply chains and energy prices.
