European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke at the Munich Security Conference about the necessity of a new European security strategy.

Referring to the way the bloc has remained steadfast in its support for Ukraine, Von der Leyen said: “This is a real European awakening and this is just the beginning of what we need to do.”

He also called for new beginnings and security cooperation.

Von der Leyen further emphasized the importance of European independence, adding that Europe must "stand up" and assume its responsibility.

"An independent Europe is a strong Europe, and a strong Europe constitutes a stronger transatlantic alliance. Some lines have been crossed that cannot be crossed again," she added.
