38 people have been escorted by the Saranda Police for questioning in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Portuguese Luis Miguel Varela Mendes, in the early hours of this morning, at the "Principote" bar in Ksamil.
Sources indicate that the arrest of other people is expected, in addition to 29-year-old Sokrat Vata, the suspected perpetrator of the murder. Also expected are the detention of two Turkish citizens who are suspected of having helped Vata flee the scene of the crime, as well as other people who may have knowledge of the incident.
Meanwhile, Moisid Matushaj, 24, a resident of Gjirokastra, who works as a Criminal Investigation Specialist at the Gjirokastra Local Border Directorate, has been detained. He is suspected of helping 29-year-old Sokrat Vata escape after the murder of the 20-year-old Frenchman.
Police investigations show that Matushaj worked as a bodyguard for the company "Elite Security", together with Sokrat Vata, at the "Principote" bar. It is suspected that he helped Vata leave the scene.
Police are also investigating the role of a Turkish couple who were driving the vehicle where the perpetrator of the murder was allegedly hiding. According to preliminary investigations, Sokrat Vata is also suspected of working as a bodyguard for the Turkish citizen.
