One of four Canadians quarantined in Vancouver after exposure to the hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship MC Hondius has tested positive for the virus.
The news was confirmed by British Columbia's provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, who said the infected person, originally from Yukon, had been showing mild symptoms for the past two days, including fever and headache.
The four Canadian citizens aboard the ship arrived in Victoria on May 10 and were immediately placed in isolation for at least 21 days. Meanwhile, two other people who had previously returned to Canada are quarantined in Ontario.
Although only one case has been confirmed positive so far, health authorities have announced that three of the four people in isolation on Vancouver Island are being monitored in hospital.
The hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship has caused great concern, and so far it is reported that three people on board have lost their lives.
