The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a communication with citizens on social networks, criticized Prime Minister Edi Rama for his appearance at the Euro-Atlantic Alliance summit and for financing Kanye West's concert in Tirana.
Berisha stated that Albania, according to him, was represented in the most inappropriate way at NATO, attacking Rama's dress and appearance during the summit. According to him, international media have described Rama as a "joker, joker and servile", while adding that these actions damage the country's image.
Berisha also accused the prime minister of violating, according to him, international rules and protocols, by not respecting the institution he represents. The DP leader also spoke about the protests against the government, describing them as peaceful and powerful, while calling on citizens to join in a protest against the Rama government.
Berisha particularly criticized the decision to finance Kanye West's concert in Tirana with 4 million euros.
"The only country that was represented there in the most ridiculous way in the Euro-Atlantic Alliance was Albania, because the godfather of Albania, with his exhibitionism, can go with basketball player's sneakers. I have nothing against sneakers, but they are for sports events. Whereas at that summit, only someone who is crazy, stupid and sick can do such an act. He personally got what he deserved, he was branded as a joker, a joker and a servile, by the world's largest media. I cannot say that Albania was ashamed of an individual like this, who breaks the constitution of his country, violates international rules and protocols, to demonstrate respect for those he represents and those he belongs to. These are not voluntarisms, they are centuries-old. When someone who does not deserve to enter there, they are expected. Peaceful protest remains undefeated and extraordinary. Today I invite all citizens to join in a powerful protest, entirely against the acts of repeated statements of Rama and his government. But the payment of 4 million to Kanye West is an insult, an ignorance for Albanians," said Berisha.
