A fire outbreak registered in the village of Shqiponjë in the Municipality of Prrenjas, in the area known as "Lukovë - Guri i Mekut", has engulfed a significant area of beech forests, putting local civil emergency structures and fire services on alert.
According to official sources from the Prrenja Municipality, Fire Protection and Rescue (FPR) personnel were engaged non-stop throughout yesterday in combating the flames, while today they continued their intensive work to isolate and completely extinguish the active fires.
The operation took place in extremely difficult mountainous terrain, which made it difficult for firefighting vehicles to intervene and made it necessary to engage ground forces to prevent the spread of the flames to other forest areas.
In this operation, teams from the Prrenjas Municipality, the State Police, the forestry service, as well as the residents of the area, who contributed to coping with the situation and supporting the forces on the ground, have closely collaborated.
Fortunately, no damage to people or homes has been reported from this event. Damage has only been recorded in forested areas with ash, while authorities continue to monitor the area to avoid reactivation of the fires.
