The West Midlands bushfire situation continues to be worrying. Dozens of homes have been destroyed and at least 19 people have been taken to hospital with injuries.

A total of 54 patients are reported to have been treated for the blazes in the Birmingham, Staffordshire and Worcestershire region.

Among them, nine patients were taken to hospital after being treated for smoke inhalation after ambulance crews responded to a large fire on Papyrus Way in the Hodge Hill neighbourhood of Birmingham.

Six people were taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital, also due to smoke inhalation, after a separate fire at the junction of Maureen Avenue and Sandy Road in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Emergency crews are continuing to battle the blaze, having managed to extinguish fires in open pastures, along the railway embankment and in gardens in Stourbridge, West Midlands Fire Service said in its latest update.

Health warnings have been raised in central and southern England due to the heat.
