A 40-year-old man declared internationally wanted by Italian authorities has been arrested in Peshkopi.
Gëzim Dani, also known as Gëzim Hidri, was arrested during an operation conducted by FAST Albania in cooperation with the Dibër Local Police Directorate. According to the State Police, he had been sentenced by the Naples Court of Appeal to 9 years in prison for the criminal offenses of “Criminal Organization” and “Exploitation of Prostitution”.
Italian authorities accuse him of exploiting Eastern European girls for prostitution in the Naples area in 2009. The arrest was carried out as part of cooperation between Interpol Tirana and its Italian counterparts for the localization and capture of internationally wanted persons.
Meanwhile, Albanian and Italian authorities are continuing the procedures for the extradition of the 40-year-old to Italy.

The next phase of the operation codenamed "Fast" is being finalized by the Directorate of the Special Operational Force, in cooperation with the Dibër DVP.
A citizen with high social risk, sentenced in Italy to 9 years in prison, for the criminal offenses of "Criminal organization" and "Exploitation of prostitution", was arrested in Peshkopi.
Following the cooperation through Interpol Tirana and counterparts in Italy, for the localization and capture of citizens declared internationally wanted, specialists of the Search Sector (FAST Albania) at the Directorate of the Special Operational Force at the DPPSh, in cooperation with the services of the DVP Dibër, finalized another phase of the coded operation "Fast", during which the citizen was captured in Peshkopi and arrested:
-Gëzim Dani alias Gëzim Hidri, 40 years old.
This citizen was declared internationally wanted by Interpol Rome, Italy, after the Naples Court of Appeal, by decision dated 15.11.2021, sentenced him to 9 years in prison for the criminal offenses of "Criminal Organization" and "Exploitation of Prostitution", because he exploited girls from Eastern Europe for prostitution in the Naples area in 2009.
Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with Interpol Rome, is continuing the procedure for the extradition of the 40-year-old to Italy.
