Horrifying footage was captured on Thursday off the coast of Singapore as a large cargo ship collided with a much smaller fishing vessel. In the video, filmed by fishermen aboard the Chinese fishing vessel Luqing Yuanyu 108, the Panamanian-flagged cargo ship First Margaux is seen speeding towards it and trying to change course to avoid the collision.

However, the maneuver was not enough. Seconds later, the cargo ship passes by the trawler, but hits it in the stern, causing a powerful collision. From the impact, the Luqing Yuanyu 108 capsized and took a large slope to the left side, while the crew tried to stay out of the water and cope with the situation. According to data published by specialized websites on maritime traffic, the incident occurred near a busy anchorage area, where a large number of ships were located. This situation made it more difficult to maneuver to avoid the collision.

Sources report that the First Margaux was traveling about 2-3 knots faster than the fishing vessel when the collision occurred at around 09:00 in the morning. The impact struck the starboard stern of the Chinese vessel, causing it to roll and list significantly. Despite the collision and the entry of water on board, the fishing vessel did not sink. At the time of reporting, there was no information about injuries among the fishing vessel’s crew.
