Christine Lagarde has reacted to the bandages she wore on her face in the video where she announced her resignation as president of the European Central Bank (ECB).
Through a statement, Lagarde explained that the bandages are the result of a minor surgical procedure she underwent earlier this week.
I have just informed my colleagues that I will step down as @ECB President on February 7, 2027.
It has been a source of great pride to serve this institution.
I thank all of those who have supported me on this journey over the past seven years. https://t.co/eSLLTaDAej

"To avoid any discussion on social media, the bandages on my face are due to a minor surgical procedure I underwent earlier this week," she said. The ECB president did not provide further details on the nature of the procedure, limiting the explanation to the reason for the bandages that were seen in the published video.
