The socialist majority has rejected in the Parliament the request to postpone the deadline for the Territorial Reform, causing strong reactions from the opposition.

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has described the decision to reject the DP's request to extend the deadline of the Territorial Commission as a "brutal act" and has accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of attempting to use the reform to serve political interests.

"The Democratic Party responded to a firm request from the European Commission to engage in the parliamentary committee on Territorial Affairs, as one of the conditions set by this committee for Albania's progress towards the EU. Also, in addition to the committee, we have had hundreds of requests from citizens to participate in the committee to advocate for their interests.
We did this convinced that Rama would do everything to appropriate the reform to benefit his mafia and anti-Albanian interests.
Coming today with a report that was not presented to the committee, this is brutality and an act to remove power from the citizens.
"No occupier or regime has done what you are doing. When you saw that Albanians rejected the reform with contempt, you rejected the consultations and brought an undebated report to the committee," he said.
