BRUSSELS – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has condemned the latest wave of Russian attacks on Ukraine, accusing Moscow of pursuing a deliberate strategy to hit the Ukrainian population and infrastructure.
In a statement made through the X platform, Von der Leyen said that Russia is trying to make it impossible for Ukrainians to live in peace, while emphasizing that the European Union will continue to support Ukraine.
"To protect people and infrastructure, Europe is increasing its support. Others must also increase their support," declared the President of the European Commission.
As part of the new support, the European Commission has decided to make 1.24 billion euros available to Ukraine for the purchase of drones and missiles, with the aim of strengthening its defense capabilities in the face of Russian attacks.
Von der Leyen described the situation as an attempt by Moscow to exert pressure on Ukraine through continued strikes on targets and infrastructure.
The EU's decision comes at a time when Russian attacks on Ukraine have raised concerns about the safety of the population and damage to vital infrastructure.
According to Von der Leyen, European support aims to help Ukraine protect its citizens and strategic facilities, while she also called on other international partners to increase assistance to Kiev.
