Student Orion Çela, invited to the show "News24 Weekend" with Megi Latifi, stated that the student protest has been going on for 161 days, while economic problems and difficult living conditions remain among the main reasons for their revolt. He mentioned high rents, poor conditions in dormitories and the obligation to work to cover expenses, which according to him prevents students from focusing on their studies.
"I have been working and studying since day one," said Çela, adding that parents are also concerned about police violence, but this has not stopped the young people from continuing the protest.
He called police violence unacceptable, claiming that the most violent are mainly young officers, while those of an older age have withdrawn more. “This is unfortunate, because we are young and we are the ones who will enjoy Albania,” the student said.
Çela stressed that the protest requires persistence and cannot be expected to bring about change in a few days. "This is not a sprint, it is a marathon. We cannot go out for two days and hope that Rama will be overthrown," he declared.
The student announced that the youth are self-organizing and that decisions are made collectively, without a leader leading the protest. He also announced that a mass protest is expected to be held on November 28, where it is hoped that there will also be participation from the diaspora.
Regarding the demands for dialogue, Çela described them as an expression of Prime Minister Rama's desperation. According to him, dialogue cannot come from those who have joined the protest for just one day. He warned that Rama may try to include in his political schemes even young people and students engaged in the Socialist Party.
"The request for dialogue, a sign of desperation from Rama. Dialogue does not come from those who have protesters almost one day. It can come from the schemes of politics and Rama who can also involve young people and students who are engaged in the SP, what do you not expect from this prime minister. We do not want solutions from Rama, for 13 years he has not solved anything for us, we only want Rama to leave and the government that will come to continue the work", said the student.
