The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has commented on the possibility of creating a new political formation from protesting students, which would not include either the Socialist Party or the Democratic Party. Asked whether Albania could move towards a scenario similar to that in Serbia, Berisha denied such a parallel, emphasizing that in Serbia there was no opposition force comparable to the DP.

To a citizen's question, which referred to discussions about the creation of a new front or party by students, Berisha responded by emphasizing that the right to create new political formations is part of pluralism and democracy.

"I can never have any kind of negative attitude towards those who want to create their own political formation. For me, political pluralism is the main pillar of democracy and everyone has the right to act according to their opinion, their desire," declared Berisha.

However, he stated that the situation in Albania bears no resemblance to developments in Serbia. According to him, the student movement there was led by the state university infrastructure, with the Belgrade rector and deans at its head.

Berisha also mentioned the duration of the movement in Serbia, saying that it took place over two years, in more than 700 days. Another difference, according to him, was the fact that Serbian students faced dozens of small opposition parties, which, as he claimed, did not exceed 7-8% of support in total.

"So, there was no opposition party in Serbia such as the Democratic Party," Berisha emphasized, referring to the role of the DP in the Albanian political scene.

In the end, the opposition leader stated that students have the right to take any political step, but advised them not to rely on what he described as an unrealistic perception of developments in the country.

Berisha's statement comes at a time when the possibility of creating a new political alternative, outside the two main forces, the SP and the DP, has also been discussed during the student protests.
