Former head of the American Chamber of Commerce, Enio Jaço, has reacted after today's protest in Tirana, expressing concern about the escalation of violence and the consequences that this situation may have for Albanian society.

In a reaction, Jaço emphasizes that the concern is not only related to what happens on the streets, but also to the loss of trust in institutions, respect among citizens, and the ability to accept different opinions without turning into opponents.

According to him, anger, violence and division risk becoming a normal part of everyday life, while dialogue is increasingly being replaced by clashes.

In his reaction, he raises questions about the state of society and its ability to maintain solidarity, respect, and hope for the future.

Jaço emphasizes that another concern is the loss of sensitivity to serious events, warning that society risks becoming accustomed to violence and division.

What are we losing as a society?

It's not just what's happening on the streets. It's what's happening to us.

We are losing trust in institutions, respect for each other, and the ability to think differently without becoming enemies.

We are losing the idealism of young people, the calmness of parents, and the conviction that tomorrow can be better.

But above all, we are losing empathy.

We are getting used to anger, to violence, to division. To everything that once would have shocked us.

Today Tirana saw a massive turnout but also massive violence. Thousands of people in the streets, anger, clashes and scenes that should concern us all, regardless of which side we stand on.

After all this, the question is not just who is to blame.

It is what remains of a society when dialogue is replaced by conflict, when fear becomes part of everyday life, and when no one seems willing to listen to the other anymore.

And this is perhaps the saddest thing.

A society doesn't just collapse when people clash. It also collapses when they start to consider as normal what should shock them.

Because the tragedy is not just the violence we saw today in Tirana. It is the risk that tomorrow it will no longer shock us.
