One of the Jews proposed that Israel be created in Albania.
These days there is a lot of talk about the arrival of Jews in Albania.
It seems like the Jews have decided to abandon Israel and settle here.
Of course it's not true.
That people have been waiting for two thousand years and fighting for eighty years for a few more centimeters of land.
For that desert where not an apple can grow, it has killed the children of another people, it has been killed, and today it is in conflict with most of the world.
The Israelites today must be the most hated people on the face of the earth.
Every coup, every stock market crash, every bankruptcy, every crisis, every fraud, and every war is linked to them.
The Israelis look like a den of witches who destroy other peoples and take their money.
Behind every event that people don't understand, there is a Jew hiding.
Including in Albania.
The words that the Israelis will come to take our place are like the uprooted stones of Tirana's boulevard.
They serve to break the glass of our self-confidence.
Every time a people loses confidence in themselves, they find fault with another people.
Every people lives better when an imaginary enemy fuels its reserves of recycling nationalism.
This is called low-cost nationalism.
At low cost.
When it cannot serve as gasoline, imaginary nationalism serves as lubricant.
He moves the wheel of political rotation a little faster.
But to give some comfort to all those who truly believe that we are in the midst of a Jewish conspiracy, there once was a plan to create Israel in Albania.
Before Israel was founded in 1948, hundreds of Jews began to think about where their state would be created.
In which area of the world?
On which continent?
Near or far from Europe, which killed 6 million Jews in World War II.
Horrified by the exterminating Holocaust, some proposed that Israel be in Africa, some in Kenya, so better among lions than Europeans and especially Germans, some in Madagascar on the island of slaves, some in Mongolia as a sandwich between 1 billion Chinese and 300 million Soviets, another in Alaska with Eskimos who eat live eels, and some in Argentina in the most extreme corner of the world, in Patagonia, opposite the South Pole.
Of course, our hysterical country could not be missing from the map of this hysteria.
One of the Jews proposed that Israel be created in Albania.
This was an English journalist of Jewish origin who came to Tirana in 1935.
His name was Leo Elton and he was a bit naive.
And since his plan, which predicted that 3 million Jews would coexist with 800 Albanians, was naive, it was not taken into account.
If that happened, we could be like the Palestinians today and Tirana would be like Jerusalem.
Divided by walls, zones and neighborhoods.
I don't know which part of Kavaja would be where I live today, but I'm afraid that Kodrat e Liqeni would be in the Jewish part.
Jews really like water.
But although journalist Leo Elton's ambulatory plan was not accepted, it had an effect in Albania.
He overthrew a government.
The conspiracy worked.
From rumors, one government fell and another rose.
I told this entire story about the arrival of the Jewish journalist in Tirana and his secret negotiations in my latest novel, Crazy Stories of Tirana.
Fortunately, this book was written from January to early June, before the stones of the "Jews will take our place" conspiracy turned into cannonballs.
Anyone who wants to learn more can read Tirana's Crazy Stories.
The chapter is called "The Jewish Plan to Make Tirana Jerusalem."
It is located on page 245.
It's a quick read, especially when it's raining.
