Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said that the verdict against Hashim Thaci, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selim constitutes, according to him, confirmation of Serbia's claims about the KLA.
Dacic claimed that the verdict proves that the KLA was a “criminal and terrorist organization” and that its top political and military leaders were responsible for crimes during the war in Kosovo.
The Specialist Chambers, however, tried the four accused on the basis of their individual criminal responsibility. They were found guilty of war crimes, while they were acquitted of crimes against humanity.
Dacic criticized the dismissal of the charges of crimes against humanity, calling it a "political maneuver" and claiming that the decision minimizes the suffering of the Serbian victims. He said that even the sentences imposed are not enough for the victims' families.
