The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted after the publication of the European Commission's progress report on Albania, describing it as an unprecedented document and with severe criticism of Edi Rama's government. In a statement to the media, Berisha claimed that the report highlights the concentration of powers, problems with elections and the weakening of parliamentary control.
“Albania, compared to Montenegro, is an authoritarian dictatorship,” Berisha declared, referring to his assessment of the state of democracy and the rule of law in the country. According to the DP leader, the European Commission is demanding 115 changes from Albania for the coming year, including electoral reform, restoring parliamentary control over the government and budget, removing exemptions from public procurement and prohibiting damage to protected areas.
Berisha directly attributed responsibility for the problems highlighted in the report to Prime Minister Edi Rama. He accused him of interfering in the electoral process, concentration of power, use of public resources during campaigns, and connections with criminal groups to influence the elections.
The opposition leader also repeated the accusations of distributing 100 euros to pensioners during the electoral campaign, forgiving 2.1 billion euros in fines and interest on late payments two days before the elections, and involving people connected to crime in the Assembly. He also claimed that 138 licenses were issued for the cultivation of cannabis on 29 thousand hectares of land.
"I am here today to present to Albanians the most important annual national report for Albania, for Albanian society and the institutions of this country.
First, it greatly simplified my presentation before you, I shortened it because what Albanians read on Edi Rama's face speaks more than the Commission's report itself.
It speaks of the high degree of his intersectionality. From alpha to omega, the Godfather of Albania is primarily responsible for all the serious findings of the European Commission on Albania this year. This is an unprecedented report in the history of relations between Albania and the European Union.
Anyone who wants to compare this report with the report on the functioning of democracy and the rule of law in Montenegro will find that Albania, compared to Montenegro, is an authoritarian dictatorship.
The report points to the major problems of the authoritarian dictatorship in Albania or Edi Rama's electoral autocracy.
I salute those on whose information this report was drafted, but also those who drafted the report.
Albanians should know that the European Commission is asking Albania for 115 changes for next year, some of which are of a more urgent nature, such as electoral reform, the return of parliamentary control over the government and the budget, the removal of exemptions from public procurement, and the prohibition of damage to protected areas.
All of these have an author and main author, the Patron Saint of Albania.
He is the one who, with brutal interventions in the electoral process, allowed the organization and personally organized 4530 activities to influence Albanian voters.
He is the one who, since 2020 until today, has taken over 90 percent of the powers in the country into his black hands.
He is the one who, in order to remain in office, arrested the leaders of the main opposition parties and the third party in the election year and put them under criminal prosecution.
He is the one who, at the height of the electoral campaign, distributed 100 euros to every pensioner to buy votes.
It is he, Edi Rama, and no one else, who, in order to maintain his mandate at all costs, forgave 2.1 billion in fines and interest just two days before the elections.
He is the one who organized the army of electoral political terrorists.
It is he, and no one else, who activated all the drug cartels and criminal organizations with his Gysi to introduce 28 criminal MPs into parliament.
It is Edi Rama who decided to license 138 licenses for planting 29 thousand hectares of cannabis drugs for votes.
Edi Rama is the architect of the violation of the most fundamental principle of free elections, equality in competition.
The report of the damkos was therefore a pale light in the black!
"Did you hear it yesterday, or not? Yesterday he said, this is the best report that has come out of Brussels, but today he had a feeling... that I don't want to use that word that doesn't suit me," he said.
