The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has declared that the opposition will continue the legal battle against the territorial reform, which was approved the day before in the Assembly with the votes of the Socialist Party, while the DP was against. In a media appearance, Berisha announced that the collection of signatures for the referendum has begun and that no legal option is excluded, including sending the case to the Constitutional Court.

Berisha accused the MPs who voted for the reform of their decision-making being dictated by personal and family interests, while describing the vote held during the night as an unprecedented act.

"Deputies, this is not about honor and dignity, but about their personal and family interests. Such a thing has never happened, more incriminating than last night, from 1:30 am. Condemning this act, the DP declares that it will continue every legal battle against the execution of the decision of the 15 municipalities. We have started collecting signatures for a referendum. We will study all modalities of local and national referendums.

We have the deepest conviction that we are protecting the interests of Albanian citizens from a gang, from a criminal organization called parliament. No legal possibility is excluded to file a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court. We acted as citizens' advocate in 15 municipalities, in 14 hours. We presented every argument in the interest of the citizens, but they were multiplied by zero for the electoral interests of the godfather and his party. We will use every legal space to protect the rights of communities," he said.
